The Martin family making Indianapolis gleam one house at a Time

“John and I met during college, a friend had set us up on a date & it was instant chemistry. A secret elopement & 3 kids later, we are now headed into our 26th wedding anniversary. ” says Ashley.

Their passion for lighting started with Christmas lights. “During the holidays we would decorate our home with custom cut Christmas lights in the most beautiful vibrant colors, stunning greenery, & wreaths. Our neighbors & friends were mesmerized & wanted us to do the same for their homes. Bringing holiday cheer to our friends & family brought us so much joy & that’s when we got the lighting bug.” says Ashley. During this time John became very passionate about outdoor lighting & the positive emotions that it brings people, he began studying how lighting creates different feelings. “You can transform your dark & bleak backyard into your very own oasis by highlighting the beautiful landscaping, trees, & flower beds throughout the yard. By highlighting the architecture of your home, it brings a sense of warmth & welcoming to your guests all while creating a sense of security and deterring thieves,” says John. “Our thought was, We invest so much into our homes, why allow darkness to hide what you worked hard for & all its beauty? “

It all started in a 2008 Ford explorer with a ladder on the top rack, their son Tyler, who was 15 at the time & daughter Kayla, who was 18 helped their parents with the install, while John & Ashley also created thought out custom lighting designs for each customer. “John & I both worked corporate jobs to make ends meet while not borrowing any money as we started this passion project. We invested our own resources, time, & sweat equity. Any project we did we would walk the neighborhood telling their neighbors to check out our project & leave them with a business card. We quickly started getting tons of calls on the work we did. What was a passion became in demand & forced us into business.” says Ashley. As things picked up for the Martin family their daughter’s, then boyfriend, now husband, Andy Perry jumped on board & helped take Gleam to the next level with his work ethic & drive. “Andy truly took us to new heights. He embodies our core values through & through. He truly goes above & beyond for our customers every single day.” says Ashley. ” From that old truck & all of us working together as a family to now having a staff of over 20 team members & serving over 1,200 customers not only in Indiana but all over the United States, we never dreamed gleam would be what it is today.”

John & Ashley thought they would be stuck climbing that corporate ladder, now 6 years in business they proudly serve greater Indianapolis & Cincinnati. They are especially proud of their customer satisfaction rate with over 150 all 5 star reviews on google & other platforms. “We never really consider ourselves self employed because we all work so hard for our customers to make them happy everyday. Our incredible customers are what keep us growing & their reactions are what keeps our passion burning” says Ashley.

Gleam has now started an electrical division servicing businesses & homeowners electrical needs. They are forecasting growth to be over 100% by next year, creating more job opportunities within their community. “Our dear family friend, Anthony Owens, who is a Master Electrician has joined the Gleam Team. He & his team have major upcoming projects, such as an electrical contract for new construction on two Dunkin Donuts locations, Muncie, IN, and East Washington Street in Indianapolis. Our team is on fire & we are proud to have this fantastic group by our side!” says Ashley.

Gleam has many creditable clients & is trusted by many large corporations. Gleam will be featured on HGTVs new hit television series “Buying back the Block” with comedian Mike Epps & his wife, Kyra. Together they are buying back his old childhood block in Indianapolis. Mike, Kyra, and an awesome team of contractors including Gleam Electrical And Lighting Design are featured restoring & renovating his childhood block. “Buying Back The Block” is scheduled to air this fall on HGTV.

Gleam is a women & minority owned business, which is unique in the contractor space. Ashley & John work tirelessly to create not only an amazing experience for their customers but also an unmatched work culture for their employees. ” It’s our Team of hard workers who are really more like family, they constantly go above & beyond each day to create customer happiness. Providing our customers an amazing experience is truly what sets us apart from most contractors. “Our team cares & that’s the Gleam difference.” says John. Design is another key factor that separates Gleam from the rest. With over 7 national awards Gleam been recognized all over the country with their exquisite lighting designs. Gleam is very involved in the community & supports missionaries as a company, all over the world, and gives to the homeless shelter downtown, Good News Ministries. ” God is the reason we are able to do what we love every day & we want to give back through ministry & by helping our community,” says Ashley.
